20% of the members of National association of foster care are ready to take Syrian children–refugees.
Almost 70 Syrian children with no parents are settled in refugee camps in Bulgaria.
From more than 200 foster families in the whole country above 40 of them are willing to take care of a Syrian child-refugee.
The coordinator of the NAFC for the area of Vidin Tzvetelina Miloslavova, foster parent herself, says: “We must take care of the children regardless of their race, religion or language. Refugee camps are not the best place to raise and develop a child so it’s important to make a serious effort for them as well.”
According to the coordinator of the Association in Stara Zagora and member of the board Svetlozar Rusev, also a foster parent, the childhood is the most important stage in a person’s life and moments spent in fear for your life and in isolation are not ones to be experienced by a kid. “The human duty, the love for children and the dedication for the foster care oblige us to offer our helping hand to the vulnerable Syrian children forced to seek salvation for their lives.”
NAFC is ready to make an information campaign amongst its members for the possibility of taking care for a child from the camps. Unofficially 70 Syrian children came to Bulgaria without parents or any other adults and according to the database of the Agency for social support in almost 300 foster families lack settled children.
The International convention for the children’s rights says that when it’s impossible to find a refugee-child’s parents it must be given the same protection as any other child lacking family environment. One of the options given is settling in foster family.
