According to the State agency of child protection up to the end of January 2014 1780 children between the age of 3 and 18 have been settled in homes for children lacking parent care. 254 of them are between the age of 3 and 6 and 1526 between 7 and 18.  In homes for babies (with medical-social care) have been settled 1183 newborns, babies and kids up to 3 years old. In homes for mental retardation live 1085 children, in those with physical disabilities – 41 children,  and in centers of a family type and protected homes there are 97 children.

Every two of 1000 children inBulgariaare being separated from their parents and live in social homes. 4 of 1000 babies spend part of their earliest childhood in homes for babies.
