A survey showed that NAFC helps foster parents by defending their rights

National association of foster care works for upgrading the skills of the foster parents to make them better at their care for the children and to defend their rights. These are just some of the opinions from the members who took part in a poll about the NAFC’s activities in the period January – February 2014. In the poll answered 510 foster parents, social workers, experts, journalists and citizens.

We present some of their opinions about what really NAFC does:

  • „You try to punish the administration for its inactions and you succeed.”
  • "You cooperate successfully when there’s a search for a foster parent for the kids.”
  • „You take part in inventing and developing new politics towards the foster children. You promote the foster care itself.”
  • „You help foster parents to solve current issues and for the quicker settling of the children in need.”
  • "You create a considerable sense of fundamental stability. You picture sincere, charming and intelligent face for the foster parents.”

From all of the participants, 260 turned for help to the Association. Also almost 49% are very pleased with their membership in the Association and consider it useful for them and for the foster parents. „I recommend every foster parent to become a part of the Association because we need to be more to make our voice be heard.”- says a participant in the poll.

The survey showed that foster parents need mainly information about the country’s administration plans for the development of foster care, for their rights as foster parents and about information for the international practices in the area of foster caring. Participants recommend the NAFC to organize more regional meetings with foster parents and to publish more practical and teaching materials for foster parents and the children settled with them.

About the problems of foster care, 49% of the answers consider that it’s urgent to make the relationship social workers towards fosters parents better.

43% think it’s very important to upgrade the knowledge and skills of the social workers linked with foster families. 23% would join teaching sessions for upgrading their knowledge about communicating with social services. 60% say there must be a profiling system for foster care (for example- babies, kids with disabilities, etc.). Foster parents who took part in the survey recommend that the guild has to prepare its own professional standards which would prove the knowledge, skills and competence; also the behaviors with which they can be considered worthy of the job “foster parent”. Just above 60% are thinking that there should be a proper form for the job contract under exact requirements for the parents. For 70% it’s urgent to take actions towards reduction of the time needed for waiting new settling in a foster family.
