NFCA resolution on a draft for state educational requirements for the

National Foster Care Association of (NFCA) states it is appropriate time for scheduling and implementation of educational standards for the “foster parent” profession." As is known, the occupation is listed in the National Classification of characteristics and occupations in Bulgaria.

When applying the educational standards for the "foster parent" profession is extremely important National Agency for Vocational Education and Training to act according the following principles: 

  1. It is needed the introduction of training for foster parents to be based on competencies. Implementing "foster parent the profession" trainees should possess competencies associated with the cultivation and protection of the child, providing the link between the child and his age, ensuring the relationship between the child and the birth family , the child support to create safe and developing relationships for life and skills for work as a member of a team of professionals. (For PRIDE program, CWLA). Approach, based on competencies, ensures that they can describe behaviours that are demonstrated by the professionals that will make it easier and training.
  2. Learning needs to be passed by persons 18 years of age who have completed at least 10th Grade.
  3. It is education and training of students to be aimed directly at developing sensitivity for the best interest of the child, not to focus only and mainly on covering basic and physical needs of the child.
